Position Summary:
The Executive Director is responsible for the successful day-to-day running of SDF in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. Together with the Board, the Executive Director works to ensure the accomplishment of SDF’s mission and vision through the implementation of its initiatives. The Executive Director is also responsible for raising funds.
The position is half-time. The salary is commensurate with the scope and complexity of responsibilities and based on appropriate qualifications and experience. Travel expenses are also payable. Applications are due January 5, 2018 and should be sent to:
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
Project Management
  • Works to implement the initiatives chosen by the Board
  • Monitors progress of those initiatives against objectives and timelines
  • As requested by the Board, oversees and monitors grant applications, including receiving required progress and completion reports from grantees
Raising Funds
  • Heads strategy and planning
  • Builds and maintains relationships with sponsors/donors and develops plan(s) for sponsor/donor relationships with SDF
  • Delivers presentations at retreats and other events
  • Provides regular and timely feedback to sponsors/donors
  • Keeps a record of sponsor/donor correspondence
  • Organizes and supports fundraising events
  • Facilitates revisions of the SDF website and subsequent updating and maintenance
  • Cultivates SDF’s presence in social media including managing SDF Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Oversees appropriate promotional materials, including newsletters, brochures, videos and fliers
  • Prepares case studies of projects for use in promotional materials
Acts as a Liaison
  • Reports directly to the Board, keeping it informed of the implementation of SDF initiatives and raising of funds
  • Keeps the Board informed on the health of the organization’s finances and deviations from the strategic plans of the Board
  • Brings important issues to the Board
  • Arranges, participates and prepares minutes of regular Executive Committee meetings or calls
  • Works with global sangha to build support and participation in SDF’s activities and fundraising campaigns
Finance, Legal
  • Oversees the overall health of the organization, including insuring that financial and operational reports are prepared and filed in accordance with IRS and State of Delaware reporting and registration requirements
  • Maintains annual operational budget for Board approval
  • Informs the Board of any legal or compliance issues
Desired Background
  • Buddhist practitioner with a strong connection to Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and the lineage of teachings of Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills
  • Significant management experience leading teams and organizational projects, ideally at an executive or senior level with oversight responsibility
  • Demonstrated skill in interacting successfully with a variety of people
  • Breadth of vision and openness necessary to maintain a big-picture perspective, along with a tactical view
  • Resourceful with ability to prioritize, problem solve, and take initiative
  • Willingness to travel to Nepal as needed
Desired Education & Experience
  • Post-graduate degree, preferably related to the responsibilities of the position
  • Demonstrated years of leadership experience managing organizations and/or teams of similar scope and complexity, preferably with international experience, ideally in Nepal or India.
