Shedrub Development Fund (SDF) was established by Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche in 2005 to support his monasteries and nunneries in Nepal and help sustain the communities of monks and nuns who live, study, and practice there.
SDF’s role became particularly important following the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake, which destroyed or severely damaged much of the infrastructure at the monasteries and nunneries. In response, SDF helped fund new housing, an enlarged temple, retreat facilities, healthcare, and other essential needs for the monastic communities.
Today, SDF continues to support more than 800 monks and nuns, helping provide the conditions they need to dedicate themselves fully to Dharma study and practice for the benefit of all sentient beings.
Since its founding, SDF has provided more than USD 10 million in funding for over 60 projects. Funds are allocated in response to grant proposals from project coordinators on the ground. We work closely with Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery and local partners to ensure that resources are directed where they are needed and used effectively in support of Dharma activities.
SDF is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 20-4751696). Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by U.S. law.
SDF is governed by a Board of Directors. The current Board members are Andreas Doctor (President), Shireen Patell, Tom Lesser, Michele Nevarez (Treasurer), and Jack deTar.
Our Advisory Board provides guidance on the growth, management, and use of the Fund and helps advance its purposes. Its current members are Richard Gere and Daniel Goleman.
