Young monks at the Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery School receive traditional monastic teachings while also studying a modern curriculum. The secular dimension of their education empowers them to navigate, and ultimately help, the world beyond the monastery.
To this end, Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling is expanding the Children’s Library at the Monastery School. More literature for our young monks is being provided in Tibetan, English, and Nepali.
- Tibetan language books help young monks of Tibetan heritage retain a connection with their mother tongue through age-appropriate storytelling; these books also improve the language skills of monks whose native language is Nepali.
- The Nepali books introduce children to literature, concepts, and vocabulary relevant to living in Nepal.
- English books introduce our young monks to a globally spoken language that will allow them to understand and ultimately help the wider world.
Currently, a small library occupies just a corner of the Monastery School. We are expanding this library from a hundred books to at least one thousand. An average children’s book costs about $15.
With your help we can create a comfortable and joyful space where our young monks can develop their creativity and storytelling, empowering them with learning resources and enhancing their proficiency in three different languages.
