Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche has a vision that all of his monasteries, nunneries, and international centers will be home to lush greenhouses, verdant medicinal gardens, and flowers and trees that support our environment.
The Shedrub Garden and Environmental Committee was formed to bring Rinpoche’s vision to life and their work is transforming the monastery grounds. Guided by the principle of sustainability, they demonstrate and teach proper tree planting, garden design, nursery development, composting, rooftop gardening, and methods for integrating ecological growing practices with urban living.
In addition to developing a world-class nursery, the project will connect with farmers in the Kathmandu Valley, and offer trees to local schools, orphanages, and other institutions in Kathmandu. At the same time, the project will develop gardens at all of the Shedrub Mandala institutions to become expressions of the love and wisdom that blossom through Buddhist practice.
We invite you to join us and support the beautification of our wisdom institutions. Help us initiate sustainable living practices within our monastic and lay communities that will serve as an inspiration for other institutions in Nepal and around the world.
